Buy Some Cachaça This Holiday Season

It’s that time of year again. And since I’m a promoter of all things cachaça, why not give a shout out to those producers brave enough to enter the US market with little more than a dream. Depending on where you live, you’re likely to be able to find these products online.

We’re lucky, in some respects, that COVID restrictions have loosened liquor delivery a bit. As a result, you’ve got a better chance of finding these products online than in your local liquor store.

1. Novo Fogo

The grand dame of non-industrial cachaça, I’d suggest experimenting with this truly unique, very representative product. Great for sipping or cocktail creation, they’ve got something for everyone. They’ve also come out with some new canned spirits, which will likely please those younger drinkers. You can find all their products here, which will take you to a place to make your purchase.

Their blends are unique and tasty but don’t get confused by the names because you may need to dig a little to understand what they mean.

2. Avua

Avua is produced in association with a great distillery here in Brazil. Now, they are selling eight, yes, 8 different cachaças on the US market. From the looks of it, they’re going heavily for the cocktail market. And given what I’ve tasted of the products made at the same distillery, I don’t think you’ll go wrong with them. Find their complete menu of products here

3. Yaguara

I hadn’t heard of this cachaça until recently, so I can’t vouch for the quality. But I can say they’ve made a good investment in their appearance, which allows me to hope that the product matches it. You can find their products here

4. Abelha

The latest entrant to the US market, Abelha, is owned by a group of British fellows. It’s a great organic cachaça. Though it’s unavailable in Brazil, its co-distillery brands are good. You can also find these on the internet, if you choose.

5. Babushka

Now, here I’m putting out a non-traditional cachaça, a pre-made cocktail. I’ve never had it. But, it’s worth a try, particularly if you’re into sweet drinks. I’m betting this will be right up your alley. Make your purchase here

Now, you might be wondering why I’m not including Pitu or Ypioca or Leblon on here. The reason why is because those are easy to find. They’re the first items that pop up on the internet when you google cachaça in the US. They’re sponsoring themselves into visibility. They don’t need my help. But hey, if you just want to run to the liquor store or have one delivered in a day, buy one of those cachaças. They’ll get the job done. And if you can find the aged Leblon, you’re in for something good.

Regardless, celebrate responsibly. But make sure you go out and get your cachaça on. While you still can.
