My father-in-law found this bottle in the back of his liquor cabinet. It’s ceramic and had been filled sometime in 2008. Of course, I was skeptical. But, on first sniff, there didn’t seem to be anything wrong with the contents. Here, I should mention that the bottle was open and only a third full.
So, I put a bit in my glass. It looked good, very light amber. Still clung to the glass when I moved it around. The nose had a whiff of cane and vanilla. The palate was a traditional oak cachaça, with few surprises. It warmed the tongue without burning and went down smooth.
Wow, it was still good after more than a decade. I don’t know whether this is due to the ceramic bottle or not. A fine surprise. Straight from Pernambuco, I thought this distillery might have gone out of business. It has not. And still uses the same bottle! Pretty cool.
